Joy Is Coming - the conclusion of ~Nois Quartet's 10th Anniversary Season! 

Giacomo Puccini is said to have considered the sound of the saxophone the closest of any instrument to the human voice. Combining the saxophone quartet and voice, ~Nois Quartet and luminary soprano Lindsay Kesselman join forces to present a unique and powerful concert experience.

This collaboration began with Annika Socolofsky’s I Tell You Me, a song-cycle of feminist-rager lullabies that was met with critical acclaim at its world premiere. Brutal New Music Reviews remarked, “the quartet’s extreme level of musicality when presenting Socolofsky’s music is profound.” Since this moment, ~Nois Quartet has embarked on a collection of songs and song-cycles to capture this uniquely powerful and novel ensemble sound.

The centerpiece of this program is three-time GRAMMY-nominated Christopher Cerrone’s Joy is Coming. In this new commission, Cerrone adapts the poetry of Kim Addonizio, whose raw, confessional but ultimately optimistic poetry has already inspired one collaboration between Cerrone and Kesselman. This project seeks to continue the collaboration — constituting a kind of “Addonizio cycle” of the composer reacting to her intense and often fragile poetry.
